Q: My husband hasn’t been hearing like he used to. How do I know when it’s time to see an audiologist?
A: The best time to see an audiologist is the moment you notice there may be a hearing issue. A lot of people mistakenly wait to see an audiologist until they think they’re ready to get hearing aids. But that’s kind of like waiting to see a cardiologist until you’re ready to get a pacemaker. If part of your body isn’t working like it used to, you should have it checked out. While hearing loss is usually benign, it could be a sign of a more serious medical condition, like a tumor. While this is rare, it’s not the type of thing you want to ignore. And at the opposite end of the spectrum, it could just be earwax!
